FACTSHEET: LOGKOW Database

The LOGKOW Database eliminates tedious literature searching and reduces the time and cost of obtaining partition coefficient data. A partition or distribution coefficient is the equilibrium ratio of the concentration of a substance dissolved in an organic solvent to the concentration of the same substance dissolved in water. The octanol/water coefficient (logKow) is the standard system which relates to biological activity and the environmental impact of chemicals.

LOGKOW DATABASE contains:
Substances in the database include:
Drugs & pharmaceuticals Environmental hazards
Herbicides, pesticides, fungicides Acid-base addition compounds
Amino-acids & peptides
Dyes, substituted phenols & other wastewater solutes
PCB's (176 congeners), PAH's & other chlorinated compounds
Poisons & toxins

Who should use the LOGKOW DATABASE:
Medicinal ChemistsAnal. ChemistsPharmacologists
Environ. Engineers Chemical EngineersToxicologists
Information Specialists

Professionals in the design of - pharmaceuticals and medicinal chemicals; environmental impact analysis; risk assessment; toxicology; the prediction and correlation of thebioconcentration, soil and sediment absorption of organic pollutants; the solubility and modeling of the environmental fate of organic chemicals - will find this user-friendly databank extremely valuable. LogKow values are used in:

Environmental Analysis Hazard Assessment
Processes where chemico-biological interactions need to be modeled
Drug SynthesisPesticide Design
Extraction procedures

LOGKOW DATABASE can be searched by:
  1. CAS Registry Number.
  2. Molecular Formula.
  3. "Browse" Mode (partial molecular formula or name fragment).
  4. Range of values (find all chemicals in the database with a logKow measurement between specified limits).

LOGKOW DATABASE is developed and is maintained by Sangster Research Laboratories.
