TDS Numerica Introduces ScienceBankTM, a Breakthrough Internet Search Engine for Scientists, Engineers, Physicians, Librarians and Researchers

New York, NY Jan. 1999 -- This month Technical Database Services, Inc. (TDS) is introducing ScienceBank, a new search engine that provides direct access to free scientific information from university, government and industry sources. ScienceBank makes it practical to discover a vast number of useful resources covering science and technology which can be difficult to locate by other search methods.

ScienceBank access is available on a low-cost annual subscription basis. At present, five broad subject areas are covered and other areas are planned. Types of information that can be found include:

  • Environmental Science - MSDSs, health and safety information and federal regulations and more (eg, IRIS, TRI, OSHA Regs, UMM Biodeg).
  • Chemistry, Physics and Engineering - physical and chemical property data and more (eg, NIST Webbook, QSAR DB, CKMech, ATHAS, MCDB, SDBS).
  • Biological Science - genomes and data relating to biotechnology and more (eg, BLAST, SGD,YDB, PDB, Flybase, PUMA, WIT, IMGT).
  • Medicine - medical specialties including infectious diseases, oncology and alternative medicine and more (eg, MEDLINE, Current Outbreaks, MEDWatch, Special Nutritionals, AIDSLine).
  • Pharmacology - drug uses and dosage, adverse effects and FDA sites and more (eg, DrugDB, RxList, Ethnobotany, DoseCalc, CVM Greenbook).

Unlike many search engines in general use, ScienceBank incorporates an innovative system (patent pending) that utilizes indexed search terms. This technology maximizes the accuracy of a search rather than the number of web sites located. As a result, ScienceBank searches target scientific and technical information effectively and require less browsing time.

"For the first time, researchers will be able to determine efficiently if free information is available before they incur the expense of an information service for pay" said Mildred Green, the President of TDS. "Scientists, physicians, engineers and librarians - and the organizations they work for - will save time and fees and get more benefit from the enormous amount of valuable information on the Web."

The annual fee for ScienceBank is $150 per individual user and site subscriptions are available. TDS has been marketing Numerica, the cluster of software products and online information services that provide data and reliable calculation methods in the fields of chemistry, environmental science, toxicology and chemical engineering, since 1983.
